Doug Casey & Jim Rogers Legendary Investors' Roundtable

Doug Casey & Jim Rogers Legendary Investors' Roundtable

Jason Burack of Wall St for Main St hosted Wall St for Main St's first Legendary Investor's Round Table with Doug Casey and Jim Rogers.

During this 50+ minute discussion, which listeners will not find anywhere else on the internet, Jim and Doug discuss today's world economic and financial situation within the context of financial history and past financial panics. Similarities to the past from other financial panics throughout history are discussed along with the US' similarities to the Roman Empire, British Empire and Soviet Union.

Jim and Doug talk about central planning, central banking, big government and how governments have only 3 real options to raise money.

Next, Jason asks Doug and Jim about competing currencies like Bitcoin, gold and silver and whether they will be allowed under any circumstance. Jason also asks Doug and Jim if the SDR will be implemented and if people will allow a one world currency.

Jason asks Jim and Doug about the turmoil in the currency and bonds markets.

Doug and Jim also talk about commodities like farmland, cattle, gold and other natural resource investing opportunities.
Finally, Jason asks Jim and Doug why does banking and finance make so much more money than other industries and is this sustainable?

Jim Rogers was in Singapore and Doug Casey was in Argentina. We apologize for the audio going in and out sometimes and Jim Rogers was also on his exercise bike during the entire interview. We are grateful for his time on an exercise bike or not.

Jim Rogers : The last thing you want is for your Gold to be in a vault of a bank which goes bankrupt

Jim Rogers :It is (what Venezuela has done ) certainly significant especially if they (the banks ) find out  that they do not have it , it will be quite a turmoil if all of sudden the banks will say we do not have all that gold we do not find it because you know a lot of gold has been mixed with other gold it might just mean more and more people do want to hold their gold in their own hands , I would suspect so , we are coming in more and more turmoil more and more banks will be going bankrupt and The last thing you want is for your Gold to be in a vault of a bank which goes bankrupt or which has to suspend redemption , so I suspect you'll see more of it

Jim Rogers : Gold will go over $2000

Jim Rogers Gold
Famed investor Jim Rogers was asked "where would gold be a year from now ?" in a Thomson Reuters Q&A session , his answer was : "I don't have a clue , I do have a clue that Gold will certainly go over $2000/oz , Gold's all time high adjusted for inflation would be well over $2000 , it will go there , I mean you can dream I have no idea , if the dollar does collapse in the next ten years which I expect , you pick your number when you have declining currencies and things are denominated in US Dollars who knows what the prices will be , they will be unbelievably high they gonna be much higher than even I believe , the numbers are gonna be staggering , it is always that way in a bull market , if you and I had sat here in 1980 to 1992 and we talked about what the prices will be five ten years later nobody would have believed this or even

Jim Rogers : I hope I am smart enough to buy more silver

Jim Rogers told CNBC this morning about the silver trade : "I do know that silver went up 25 percent in a month and that can’t last so that’ll have to come down," "I hope we have a pull-back, I hope it goes down for a while, it’ll be good for the market," "In 1987 stocks went down 30 to 40 percent, smart people went in a bought more. If it goes down I hope I’m smart enough to buy more silver."

Jim Rogers Silver will get triple digits this year

Jim Rogers : ...the thing that caught people's attention is that gold was going up so much that's the wrong way to invest , Look I own gold I own silver but where were these guys five years ago ten years ago that's when they should have ben doing all of this (buying huge amounts of silver) unfortunately for all of us most investors do not notice something until there is nice bull market in place such as with gold and silver , after ten years of price rises in gold people are starting to notice ...and yes there will be more people buying gold eventually everybody is going to own gold and then we will have to sell our gold but that's a long way from now ....
If silver continues a parabolic move I have to worry , all parabolic bubbles pops at the end , unless there is a currency crash , if silver goes up to $150 without a currency collapse I would worry says Jim Rogers

Jim Rogers Loves Gold, Buys Silver

Jim Rogers Loves Gold, Buys Silver

(TheStreet.com) - Legendary investor and author Jim Rogers, chairman of Rogers Holdings , reveals how he's trading gold and which precious metal he thinks has the most upside.
Jim Rogers : "As far as I'm concerned, gold will go certainly much higher over the next decade or so." "Governments all over the world are debasing money at a rapid rate and that has always led to higher prices for real assets throughout history and it will this time too. "....
Jim Rogers: Silver is 70% below its all-time high, 60% or 70% below its all-time high. Gold is making all-time highs.if I were looking at precious metals I would be looking at the ones that haven't moved as much. If one doesn't own gold, and one doesn't want to buy the others for whatever reason, one should start waiting for some sort of correction and then buy some gold. But as I said, the others are much more depressed historically than is gold."
"there is gonna be a huge bubble in precious metals by the end .I don't know when that will be;you know.. ask me in 2018, 2020 ... Most bull markets long term bull markets wind up in a huge mania, a huge bubble before it's over and this one will too. Someday, everybody will own gold. Someday, people will be walking down the streets checking gold prices in shop front windows."

Jim Rogers: Gold $2,000 , Silver $50

Te street.com asked legendary contrarian investor Jim Rogers when he thinks Gold will hit the $200/oz
Jim Rogers :"Rogers: I wish I knew when, watch TheStreet.com you can get all these answers to market timing; I am no good at it. I explained to you that gold will be $2,000 certainly in the decade, it'll probably be much higher than $2,000 in the decade but maybe even sooner I don't know. But to me it seems pretty clear that it'll go to at least $2,000. If you adjust the old high back in 1980 for inflation, gold should be over $2,000 now. Silver at the old high was $50, silver's at $30 now. Silver can certainly go to $50 again and probably much much higher over the next decade. "

Jim Rogers : Gold Will Hit $2,000

The huge rally in gold is expected to continue—with $2,000 an ounce well within sight over the next decade, well-known commodities investor Jim Rogers told CNBC.
GoldGold will be among the premier plays in commodities, which stand to benefit whether the economy rebounds or not, said Rogers, creator of the Rogers International Commodity Index.

"Gold is going to go a lot higher over the next decade. It may slow down for a while because it's run up so dramatically here in the last few weeks. But gold's going to be much higher," Rogers said. "Adjusted for inflation it should be well over $2,000 now. When I say something like it's going to 2,000 in 10 years it's not a very dramatic statement given the state of the world. I'm sure it's a given."

Jim Rogers : hold your gold but buy silver now

Gold Vs. Silver, billionaire investor Jim Rogers says hold your gold but buy silver now

clip was taken from an interview "Jim Rogers on Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano 10 /16 /10"

Monday, October 4, 2010

Jim Rogers - Silver is 85 % under it´s all time high - October 2010

Jim Rogers :"I just got to say that if I were to go to about precious metals, I would rather look at silver than gold. I own gold and I own silver, but silver is still 60% below its all time high. Gold is making all time highs. So it is usually better to buy low and sell high. I am not selling my gold. Gold will go over $2000 an ounce certainly in the next 5 to 10 years. But silver - on a percentage basis - will probably go up even more during that period of time. "

Jim Rogers Blog

Jim Rogers James Beeland Rogers, Jr. (born October 19, 1942) is an American businessman, investor and author. He is currently based in Singapore. Rogers is the Chairman of Rogers Holdings and Beeland Interests, Inc. He was the co-founder of the Quantum Fund with George Soros and creator of the Rogers International Commodities Index (RICI). Rogers does not consider himself a member of any school of economic thought, but has acknowledged that his views best fit the label of Austrian School of economics Early life and education Rogers was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Demopolis, Alabama.[1][4] He started in business at the age of five by selling peanuts and by picking up empty bottles that fans left behind at baseball games. He got his first job on Wall Street, at Dominick & Dominick, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in History from Yale University in 1964. Rogers then acquired a second BA degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Balliol College, Oxford University in 1966. Business career 1970-2002 In 1970, Rogers joined investment bank Arnhold and S. Bleichroder, where he worked with George Soros. In 1973, Soros and Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund. During the following 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200% while the S&P advanced about 47%.[5] The Quantum Fund was one of the first truly international funds. In 1980, Rogers decided to "retire", and spent some of his time traveling on a motorcycle around the world. Since then, he has been a guest professor of finance at the Columbia Business School.[6] In 1989 and 1990, Rogers was the moderator of WCBS' The Dreyfus Roundtable and FNN's The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers. From 1990 to 1992, he traveled through China again, as well as around the world, on motorcycle, over 100,000 miles (160,000 km) across six continents, which was picked up in the Guinness Book of World Records. He tells of his adventures and worldwide investments in Investment Biker, a bestselling investment book. In 1998, Rogers founded the Rogers International Commodity Index. In 2007, the index and its three sub-indices were linked to exchange-traded notes under the banner ELEMENTS. The notes track the total return of the indices as an accessible way to invest in the index. Rogers is an outspoken advocate of agriculture investments. Between January 1, 1999 and January 5, 2002, Rogers did another Guinness World Record journey through 116 countries, covering 245,000 kilometers with his wife, Paige Parker, in a custom-made Mercedes. The trip began in Iceland, which was about to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Leif Eriksson's first trip to America. On January 5, 2002, they were back in New York City and their home on Riverside Drive. His route around the world can be viewed on his website, jimrogers.com. He wrote Adventure Capitalist following this around-the-world adventure. It is currently his bestselling book. 2002 to present On his return in 2002, Rogers became a regular guest on Fox News' Cavuto on Business and other financial TV shows.[7] In 2002, Rogers said that Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan's "reaction to the stock-market bubble has caused two more bubbles to grow: a real-estate bubble and a consumer-debt bubble."[8] In 2006, Rogers said he was shorting US financials, home builders and Fannie Mae.[9][10] In 2005, Rogers wrote Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World's Best Market. In this book, Rogers quotes a Financial Analysts Journal academic paper co-authored by Yale School of Management professor, Geert Rouwenhorst, entitled Facts and Fantasies about Commodity Futures. Rogers contends this paper shows that commodities investment is one of the best investments over time, which is a concept somewhat at odds with conventional investment thinking. In December 2007, Rogers sold his mansion in New York City for about 16 million USD and moved to Singapore. Rogers claimed that he moved because now is a ground-breaking time for investment potential in Asian markets. Rogers's first daughter is now being tutored in Mandarin to prepare her for the future. He is quoted as saying: "If you were smart in 1807 you moved to London, if you were smart in 1907 you moved to New York City, and if you are smart in 2007 you move to Asia." In a CNBC interview with Maria Bartiromo broadcast on May 5, 2008, Rogers said that people in China are extremely motivated and driven, and he wants to be in that type of environment, so his daughters are motivated and driven. He also stated that this is how America and Europe used to be. He chose not to move to Chinese cities like Hong Kong or Shanghai due to the high levels of pollution causing potential health problems for his family; hence, he chose Singapore. He has also advocated investing in certain smaller Asian frontier markets such as Sri Lanka and Cambodia, and currently serves as an Advisor to Leopard Capital’s Leopard Sri Lanka Fund.[11] However, he is not fully bullish on all Asian nations, as he remains skeptical of India's future - "India as we know it will not survive another 30 or 40 years".[12] In 2008 Rogers endorsed Ron Paul for President of the United States.[13] Rogers has two daughters with Paige Parker. Hilton Augusta (nicknamed Happy) was born in 2003, and their second daughter Beeland Anderson in 2008. His latest book, A Gift To My Children, contains lessons in life for his daughters as well as investment advice and was published in 2009. On November 4, 2010, speaking at Oxford University’s Balliol College, Rogers urged students to scrap career plans for Wall Street or the City, London’s financial district, and to study agriculture and mining instead. “The power is shifting again from the financial centers to the producers of real goods. The place to be is in commodities, raw materials, natural resources."[14] In February 2011 Rogers announced that he has started a new index fund which focuses on "the top companies in agriculture, mining, metals and energy sectors as well as those in the alternative energy space including solar, wind and hydro."[15] The index is called The Rogers Global Resources Equity Index and according to Rogers, only the best and most liquid companies go into the index. In May 2012 he remarked during an interview with Forbes Magazine that "there’s going to be a huge shift in American society, American culture, in the places where one is going to get rich. The stock brokers are going to be driving taxis. The smart ones will learn to drive tractors so they can work for the smart farmers. The farmers are going to be driving Lamborghinis. I’m telling you. You should start Forbes Farming."[16] In September 2012 Rogers was appointed by VTB Capital as an advisor to the agricultural division of its global private equity unit. Rogers noted: “Russia and the CIS region have all the ingredients needed to become the world’s agriculture powerhouse. It seems that everything may now be coming together under VTB Capital to make this happen, so I am keen to participate.” [17] Bibliography
