It has now been 11 years since the US Federal Reserve has increased
interest rates, one of the longest periods on record. Of course the
question on the minds of investors these days is, “just when will the
Fed raise rates in the current cycle?” This question takes on a bit more
near term importance as headline US economic numbers have shown us
slowing growth. Can the Fed really raise interest rates if the economy
is barely growing? The answer is yes. In fact perhaps a more meaningful
question is, “has the Fed already waited too long to raise rates?”
